PMH was notified late 2006 that it would no longer be reimbursed the full cost for ambulance services provided to Medicare beneficiaries. A decision made by a third party auditor, hired to review 2004 hospital information, reverses a prior audit determination for both 2002 and 2003. The audit ruling was based on the auditor interpretation of guidelines designed by Congress for rural, critical access hospitals. This unanticipated shift in compensation, from the cost-based methodology to a below cost federal fee schedule, translated to a retroactive loss on the ambulance service.

PMH Board Explores Future of TLTC

In June of 2007, the Board of Directors of Prosser Memorial Hospital formed an in-house steering committee to coordinate a comprehensive study of its Transitional & Long Term Care Unit (T<C). During the March Board of Commissioners meeting, the committee presented their findings and made a recommendation to the commissioners. Based on this presentation, on May 1, the Board voted to move forward in negotiations with Eagle Healthcare Inc for the sale and transition of skilled nursing beds from Prosser Memorial Hospital.

Surgeon Timothy Rankin, of Mt. Adams Surgical Associate and Prosser Memorial Hospital, is now offering his patients an exciting new option in joint replacement surgery—computer-assisted surgery.
